NEWS: STAR TRIBUNE ENDORSES ELIZABETH ENTHUSIASTICALLY
Editorial: Wards 6-9 show Minneapolis' contrasts
Minneapolis Star Tribune / October 24, 2005
(excerpt)

"No one works harder at getting elected than parks commissioner Marie Hauser, who hopes now to move up to City Council. She has been a relentless door-knocker in Powderhorn Park, Bancroft and other mid-south neighborhoods. Trouble is, Hauser was not a standout on the Park Board, where she often voted with the old-line faction that has abused the process and embarrassed the city. The Park Board's procedural habits shouldn't be copied at City Hall. Moreover, Hauser's campaign produced misleading literature during the primary, seeming to claim support from Park Board candidates who did not endorse her.

Elizabeth Glidden would bring a fresher perspective. Both candidates are DFLers and share similar concerns for better policing, for safe, walkable neighborhoods, for better transit and for stability for small business. However, Glidden, a civil rights lawyer, grasps more completely a council member's dual role as ward representative and citywide policymaker. She's a strong advocate for bus rapid-transit on Interstate Hwy. 35W. She strongly favors the five-year budget discipline set by the mayor and current council. We endorse her enthusiastically."

  • NEWS: Eighth Ward Black Caucus strongly encourages support
Eighth Ward Black Caucus supports Glidden

After the September primaries, residents have a choice between two candidates, Elizabeth Glidden or Marie Hauser. African Americans in the Eighth Ward have come together in a caucus setting to support a candidate. After careful examination of the two candidates, including conversations with both, the Eighth Ward Black Caucus strongly supports the candidacy of Elizabeth Glidden.

The Black Caucus believes that Elizabeth Glidden is a unifying force that will work hard to bring the entire Eighth Ward together. As a civil and worker rights attorney, she has tremendous experience dealing with issues that are of great importance and concern to communities of color, including police brutality, discrimination and bias.

She has worked on projects to empower low-wage workers. Glidden will work to make the police protect the entire Eighth Ward and hold them accountable. She is committed to economic development for the African American community, and to jobs and educational opportunities for our youths.

The Eighth Ward Black Caucus believes that Elizabeth Glidden is a person of great integrity and honesty, and is committed to future partnerships with African Americans.

Glidden has asked the Eighth Ward Black Caucus to assist in helping her with what she needs to learn to be successful as a council person for African Americans and all people in the Eighth Ward.

The Eighth Ward Black Caucus encourages African Americans and all residents in the Eighth Ward to come out and vote on Tuesday, November 8. We strongly encourage our community to support Elizabeth Glidden for Eighth Ward council person.
